The Liberal Party has a plan to make sure that the Ottawa Hospital will continue to provide high-quality, needed care to families across the Ottawa area, by committing to finishing the redevelopment of the hospital’s Civic Campus.

Meanwhile the NDPs eastern platform makes no mention of the project and local NDP candidates have even hinted the plans may be revisited if they are elected. This is a risky proposition that we can’t afford.

The Conservatives have no platform at all, only promised cuts that would devastate the redevelopment of the Civic Campus and health care across Ottawa.

I along with John Fraser (Ottawa South) and Lovina Srivastava were at the Ottawa Hospital today to reaffirm that the Ontario Liberals will invest up to $1.8 billion for design and construction, which will transform the hospital into a 21st-century facility, modernizing aging equipment and spaces and boosting the hospital’s capacity to provide leading-edge care for Ottawa families. This is the plan Ottawa families can trust.

The new Civic campus will expand services delivered at the existing facility and provide health care to a region of 1.3 million people. It will provide emergency and in-patient services, as well as other specialty programs including neurosciences, trauma services and vascular surgery.

This is part of our commitment to an additional $38 million in Ottawa region hospitals this year to provide better access to care, reduce wait times, address capacity issues and better meet the needs of a growing and aging population. This is part of an additional $822 million investment in hospitals across Ontario in 2018-19, an increase of 4.6%.

Building and expanding hospitals is part of Ontario Liberal’s plan to support care, create opportunity and make life more affordable during this period of rapid economic change. That includes a higher minimum wage, free tuition for 235,000 students, free child care, and free prescription medications for everyone under 25, and 65 or over, through the biggest expansion of medicare in a generation.

Doug Ford’s Conservatives have promised drastic cuts health care, child care and our children’s education, while the NDP have a platform that just doesn’t add up who will promise anything to be elected. The Ontario Liberals have been consistent in their commitment to keeping our communities safe and healthy.
